A garage is an important part of any home as it is an area typically used for storage of many valuable items. Thus, it is important to always have a garage door that is fully functional, as well as stylistically specific to you and your family.

A garage door is a large factor in how outsiders will regard your property.  An old and withered garage door, for example, will detract from the elegant look of a nice garden, or an otherwise well-finished and attractive house.  There are many different types of garage doors.

A garage door can come in many different shapes and sizes.  Some of these include: a sectional garage door, roller doors, retractable or canopy “up and over” doors or even side hinge doors.  Each garage door comes with its unique set of pros and cons.  A retractable door, for example, swings towards the outside as it opens and then slides neatly away into the ceiling of your garage.  They are easy to install – as well as easy to automate – and can be secured with several locks.  However, because pivot points are located on the top of the retractable door, one is not able to park too close to the door itself.

A garage door furthermore comes in many different materials and styles.  Some materials to consider include steel, timber or glass reinforced polyester (GRP). Again, each material comes with advantages and disadvantages – both practical and financial – that should be considered before making a decision.  A steel garage door is one of the most economical solutions, while timber adds a more traditional and classical look to your home.   A timber garage door, however, will need to be maintained over the years to retain its original classical looks.

It is clear that choosing the right garage door is no easy task.  It is important to consider all your options, as this door will not only be important for keeping some of your most prized possessions safe, but will also affect the general feel and perception of your home.
