doors

Doors are an integral and invaluable part of any well furnished house.  They are the first things you see everyday when you return home, as well as the first things your guests notice when they come for a visit.  For this reasons, front doors of houses are usually built and decorated to appear warm and inviting.

The most common variety consists of a single rigid panel of some sort that covers the doorway and is hinged along one side so that it can fold away from the doorway in only one direction.  However, there are many different variations of doors, each one catered to a specific taste or need.

Swing doors, for example, utilize special hinges that allow them to open both inwards and outwards.  These kinds of doors are commonly found in public places, such as bars or restaurants.  Many people, however, also choose these doors for their homes: they are perfect for connecting a kitchen and dining room, for example.  People leave the kitchen carrying food (especially if a family is prone to throwing dinner parties), with their hands occupied, and it is convenient to simply be able to kick the door open whether coming in or out.

Another variation of doors is the French door.  A French door contains multiple windows built into the full length of the door.  This often allows light into a room, and adds a stylistic and unique flair.  Garden doors often possess windows on them as well, and they are usually larger, so as to allow a better view and the movement of large objects in and out of the house.  Other doors with practical purposes include small gate-like doors that can be used to keep toddlers out of a particular area of the house, as well as small swinging doors to allow pets in and out of the house with no hassle.

People put endless amounts of time into decisions pertaining their house, and choosing appropriate doors should undoubtedly be on their list: they are, after all, the gateway to your home.
