oriental rugs

An Oriental rug is a fast and effective way to add flair to a previously bare or lackluster room.  Successful decorating begins at the bottom and works its way up, and an Oriental rug can aid in achieving this goal.

Traditionally, an Oriental rug is a handmade carpet that is woven without pile or knotted with pile.  More recently, Oriental rugs have started being made by machines. One of these, however - although often extraordinarily beautiful - is not considered an authentic Oriental rug.  This is also true for any rug that is made by any method besides hand knotting or hand weaving.

Beyond simple decorating, an Oriental rug is also an excellent way to add excitement and something exotic into your home.  An Oriental rug can come from many different regions – these regions include China, Vietnam, the east of Turkey, the west of Iran and the south of India.  Many different racial groups, religious faiths, cultures and countries are involved in the creation of any particular Oriental rug.  This is because an Oriental rug can be of Persian design, yet woven in another area of the world, for example.

When choosing an Oriental rug for your home, there is a wide array of design styles and colors to choose from.  Some of these styles include floral, primitive or geometric, curvilinear, modern and contemporary, rectilinear and European, to name a few.

An Oriental rug can also be a great house-warming gift to a close friend or a family member.  They are a practical gift, yet at the same time a gift that requires special thought and attention.

Regardless of the specific style of Oriental rug you choose for your own home (or as a gift to others), they are a sign of true craftsmanship and tradition and should be displayed proudly.  It is an investment you will not regret.
